Charles Robert Darwin (12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) was an English naturalist who proposed and provided scientific evidence to show that all species of life have evolved over time from one or a few common ancestors through the process of natural selection.
The Australian seaport of Darwin is named after him.
Trivia[]
Charles Darwin was born on the same day as Abraham Lincoln, a favorite Harry Turtledove subject.
Charles Darwin in Atlantis[]
Athelstan Helms and James Walton had discussed Charles Darwin at length before they arrived in Atlantis. On the train from Hanover to Thetford, Helms noted that the unusual flora and fauna of the continent before the arrival of humans probably supported Darwin's theories. Walton intended to disagree, but the discussion was interrupted by another passenger, Henry David Primrose, who angrily condemned Darwin. Both Helms and Walton found Primrose boring.[1]
