The cave bear (Ursus spelaeus) was a species of bear that lived in Europe and Asia during the Pleistocene and became extinct about 24,000 years ago during the Last Glacial Maximum.
The name spelaeus (related to caves) is used because fossils of this species were mostly found in caves.
Cave bear in "The Yorkshire Mammoth"[]
Cave bears vanished from England, Wales and Scotland during the Roman period, but survived in Ireland until the Norman invasion.[1]
