The Caucasus or Caucasia is a region in Eurasia that includes the Caucasus Mountains and surrounding lowlands.
The Caucasus Mountains are commonly reckoned as one of the borders between Asia and Europe, and territories in Caucasia are variably considered to be in one or both continents
The Caucasus is one of the most linguistically and culturally diverse regions on Earth.
It contains three countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. Prior to the late 20th century, these regions were usually under the control of either the Soviet Union, the Russian Empire, or the Ottoman Empire.
White people are often called "Caucasians" after this range.
Caucasus in Agent of Byzantium[]
For over a millennium, the Roman and Persian Empires manoeuvred in the Caucasus for advantage, trying to gain favor with one petty kingdom over another. In Etos Kosmou 6829 (AD 1320) Basil Argyros was sent to Alania to investigate Persian meddling with Prince Goarios, its ruler.[1]
Caucasus in In the Presence of Mine Enemies[]
Even as late as 2010, the Caucasus remained a haven for bandits, despite the suppression efforts of the Greater German Reich.[2]
Caucasus in The War That Came Early[]
Sergei Yaroslavsky was of the opinion that people from the Caucasus had a such a clever, obtuse way of turning phrases, that no one could figure out what they were talking about until it was too late. His friend Anastas Mouradian (an Armenian) was a textbook example of this. Yaroslavsky wondered if this ability was what gave Caucasus natives Joseph Stalin, Lavrenty Beria, and Anastas Mikoyan a special advantage to rise swiftly in Soviet politics.[3]
