I think we're going to have to go through this category with a hatchet one of these days. When we did the RB category, that was back in the day when speculation flourished unchecked, and I think (no, I know) I wound up throwing down articles on half the prominent people in sixteenth-century Western Europe. It's a little embarrassing looking back. Turtle Fan 02:14, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Afraid not--I have to go meet someone in a few minutes and when I get home I'll need to go directly to bed. Tomorrow I might have time for it. Turtle Fan 02:20, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Medina Sidonia[]
I realize that in the sixteenth century the distinction between army and navy wasn't always quite so cut-and-dried as it is in the modern era, but I still have reservations about calling the Duke of Medina-Sidonia a "soldier" of this war when we have seperate categories for naval personnel in most other wars. It's true that he would not ordinarily by himself support a "Naval Personnel of the Anglo-Spanish War" category, nor would he and his English counterpart had we not deleted Admiral Howard the other day; but in situations where a consistent format across multiple large categories is established (ie, "Soldiers of X War" and "Naval Personnel of X War") there's some precedent for bending the three-article minimum rule. Alternately, if we don't want to create a category for him, we could just do without altogether, but having a sailor in amongst soldiers is a concern for me.
Of course, if he did indeed participate in a land campaign, this is a moot point. I probably know the least about him out of all the A-S War figures. Really I hardly know more than the name and the fact that he commanded the Armada. I've heard he was a crappy admiral. That he was the victim of one of the most famous upset defeats in naval history suggests there may be something to it, though in my assessment he was done in more by intelligence failures (not knowing about the fire ships) and bad luck (the Protestant Wind) than his own incompetence.
