Playing with this has got to be one of the most frustrating jobs on the Wiki. I mean, how can there not be ANY pictures of kings, popes (well, anti-popes), field commanders at legendary battles, prominent diplomats, the captain of a ship as storied as the Akagi, and even the commander of an entire Soviet army? Yet I found some of the more obscure figures with very little difficulty. Some, not all.
As for the baseball players, I know of a sight that will have a picture of anyone as long as they made a Major League debut. Unfortunately, some of the S&R characters never did. Turtle Fan 00:26, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

- No problem! However, I'm not sure how many more photos, portraits, etc. of the remaining historical figures that I can find. Unfortunately, many of them are rather obscure so pictures of them seemingly haven't found their way online, if they even exist at all. Considering that she lived to be 102 and had a famous husband, Anna von Schlieffen must have been photographed at some point but, as it says on her page, very little is known about her. I was shocked by how little was known about some of these historical figures as several of them were quite prominent in their time. GusF (talk) 21:56, February 13, 2014 (UTC)
Time to delete?[]
MBS' recent addition of the Englishman of Diego Garcia illustrates the point that Gus made in 2014-we may have reached the point where this category has outlived its usefulness. While some of the people here were alive in the era of photography, most predated it by centuries, sometimes even millennia. Further, as some recent historical figures have demonstrated, even people who lived reasonably public lives in the 20th century can easily fade from the record without leaving a readily accessible picture. - The advantage of putting in the "Picture Not Available" is that it would serve the same purpose since clicking on the image will show what articles use it which would include the historical figures. ML4E (talk) 18:32, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
