Apparently there was once an Emperors category which Silver had made. I deleted it in early '07. TR restored it in late '08 and re-deleted it almost immediately. I have no recollection of why we did any of these things. Turtle Fan 02:51, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

By the way, over the past few months I've re-read Dune and read for the first time some of the sequels (Frank Herbert's sequels, that is, not his son's.) Given how many pastiches and homages HT has done for other classic SF works, and even the odd in-universe fanfic like "Trantor Falls," I'm wondering if it isn't a bit odd that there are no Padishah Emperors to add to this category. (They also would have fit into the Noblemen sub-cats I did last week: Since this Wiki has trained me in the habit of noting various tidbits in any piece of fiction I read, I couldn't help noticing that Dune includes four dukes, two barons, and one count. Also four emperors, at least that I've come across in however many books I've read thus far.) Turtle Fan 03:46, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

New Subcat?[]

With Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, Joseph II, Holy Roman Emperor, and now Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor, we now have three HREs. Should we create the subcat? Turtle Fan (talk) 21:54, January 24, 2015 (UTC)

I think so. Growth is slow, but it was an important position in its day. I also vote that we put it in the "heads of state of Germany" cat, since that's probably the "best" fit given the geography of the HRE. Most historians seem to have taken that position. TR (talk) 17:47, January 25, 2015 (UTC)
When Hitler dubbed his government the Third Reich, he counted the HRE and the German Empire of 1870-1918 as the First and Second, respectively. I hate to defer to his judgment on anything, but it does appear that this is widely held up by modern German historians (who, as I recently learned, have infused the German academy with something of a self-hating streak in that regard). I have no objection. Should we do an article on the "Holy Roman Empire" or would the narrative in the sub-cat cover it? ML4E (talk) 18:49, January 25, 2015 (UTC)
It would be hard to justify an article on the HRE given how lightly HT has touched on it. A thorough write-up in the category description is probably the way to go. Turtle Fan (talk) 03:28, January 26, 2015 (UTC)
Agreed. TR (talk) 20:54, January 26, 2015 (UTC)

Subcats[]

There are quite a number of Persian and Russian rulers in this list, may be time to carve out new cats.Matthew Babe Stevenson (talk) 10:35, May 21, 2020 (UTC)

We have Category:Monarchs of Russia and Category:Monarchs of Persia. I don't see any advantage to creating "Category:Emperors of Russia" or "Emperors of Persia" in addition to, or in place of, those pre-existing categories at this time. TR (talk) 14:26, May 21, 2020 (UTC)
Nor I. Not every crowned head of either of those places was an emperor, so using the categories as a cross-section is fitting. Turtle Fan (talk) 06:38, May 24, 2020 (UTC)
