Toys[]
I propose the category of "Toys" to be created as a sub category of "Culture." Description: "The following toys and other novelty items are relevant within the works of Harry Turtledove and/or Laura Frankos." Charter members: Furry, Garden gnome, Lawn flamingo, Vicki dolls. There may even be some more that could be scrounged up.Matthew Babe Stevenson (talk) 07:06, June 14, 2019 (UTC)
- And the middle two are (lawn) ornaments not toys. If you need to scrounge for examples, it's a sign that the category is probably not viable. ML4E (talk) 22:50, June 14, 2019 (UTC)
- Add in Barbie dolls, Unnamed doll (Worldwar), Magic 8-Ball. Even with the gnomes and flamingoes removed, that brings it up to 5.Matthew Babe Stevenson (talk) 04:55, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
Works of visual art[]
Would a "works of visual art" cat be viable? Charter members: The Little Mermaid (statue), Sacred Cod, The Two Georges (painting), and York Tapestry. Nude Descending a Staircase could also be created as a redirect to Marcel Duchamp. While both the painting and its artist appear directly in American Front, there really isn't a reason to separate them as articles. The painting's reference is quite memorable, and justifies a bare minimum acknowledgement here.Matthew Babe Stevenson (talk) 18:38, July 25, 2019 (UTC)
- I'm surprised there would be so few entries into the category, and given that even those are garnered from across so many different artistic media, I would ordinarily feel like we're stretching a point to justify a tenuous category. However, visual artworks are indeed important and prominent cultural artifacts, so I'm not necessarily opposed.
- I could be convinced of the wisdom of MBS's proposal, but he or someone else will actually have to convince me. Don't take the above for a flimsy rationalization to do what you want. Turtle Fan (talk) 14:47, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
- It's been three years. I don't think the course of events had justified a category. That having been said, since Nude Descending a Staircase is on display at Marshlands, we probably should have an article, or at least a redirect to Duchamp, as MBS suggested in 2019. - I'd like to see a full article for it. There might not be all that much to say about it, but the chance to write about a painting would be nice to have. Turtle Fan (talk) 14:41, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
- I think a full article on Nude Descending a Staircase is justified. It can be separated from the Duchamp article. As I recall, the portrait he painted of Anne Colleton during the AE sub-series had a name which could be a redirect to the Duchamp article. I am not convince of the need for a "works of visual art" cat but one thing in its favor would be moving "Movies" and "TV Shows" from the "Literature" cat. ML4E (talk) 18:35, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
