They may today be in any of that country's successor states: Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia, Macedonia, or Kosovo. Generally, their relevance to Harry Turtledove's stories is set during the period of time when these nations were part of Yugoslavia. Croatia is the only Yugoslav nation Turtledove has actually used as a setting.
