Viceroys

A viceroy is an official found in monarchical governments, who administers a nation, colony, or province on behalf of a monarch. In general, viceroys are appointed by, and answer directly to, the monarch for whom they stand in; though in practice, in constitutional monarchies, the monarch often instructs the viceroy to report to some other functionary in his or her government.
