This category lists various species belonging to the class mammalia that play an important or unique role in the works of Harry Turtledove. Mammals are a class of vertebrate, air-breathing animals whose females are characterized by the possession of mammary glands while both males and females are characterized by hair and/or fur, three middle ear bones used in hearing, and a neocortex region in the brain.

This category should be reserved for species that are somehow important to the plot of a given work. The Siberian Tiger, for example, while not critical to the outcome of The War That Came Early series, is an animal never before encountered by Japanese soldiers, and so is one more obstacle for them to overcome. Alternatively, while cats and dogs are present in nearly every Turtledove work, they usually play the role of pet that they have played in OTL for millennia, and so Turtledove's uses of the species are unremarkable.
