The Lee family of the United States is a historically significant Virginia and Maryland political family, whose many prominent members are known for their accomplishments in politics and the military. Most Lees supported the Confederate States during the American Civil War.
Arguably, the Lee family member Harry Turtledove readers are most familiar with is Robert E. Lee, who has appeared in or at least played a notable role in several of Turtledove's works, including two turns as a POV.
