These people belong(ed) to one of many movements in Christianity which fall under the label "Evangelicalism."

Evangelicalism, also called evangelical Christianity or evangelical Protestantism, is a catchall term for a worldwide interdenominational movement within Protestantism, that puts primary emphasis on evangelization. Evangelion is the Greek word for "good news" ("gospel" in Old English). The process of personal conversion involves complete surrender to Jesus (commonly referred to as being "born again"). The conversion process is authoritatively guided by the Bible, considered God's revelation to humanity. Critics of the conceptualization of evangelicalism argue that it is too broad, too diverse, or too ill-defined to be adequately seen as a movement or a single movement.

A particular form of evangelicalism is most prominent in the United States since the 20th century, with several prominent politicians making it a key part of their public personas.
