This category is for members of various countries' nobility who held the rank of earl.
Earl is a rank of the nobility in the United Kingdom. In modern Britain, an earl is a member of the peerage, ranking below a marquess and above a viscount. It is parallel to the title of count. A feminine form of earl never developed; instead, countess is used.
In several of Harry Turtledove's fantasy stories, one nation will contain both counts and earls. Detina and the Raumsdalian Empire are examples.
Etymologically, "earl" comes from the Scandinavian title jarl. Thus, Bizogot jarls are included here.
