This category contains articles on Confederate States Presidential elections which have taken place in Harry Turtledove's alternate history stories. At present, the category is limited to examples from The Guns of the South and Southern Victory.
In OTL, there was only one presidential "election" in the Confederate States. Jefferson Davis, who'd already been appointed provisional president in February 1861, was formally elected that November, essentially unopposed. His full term was scheduled to last from March 4, 1862 to March 4, 1868.
The Confederate States Constitution called for elections of the President and Vice President on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November of every sixth year beginning in 1861, on a single ticket. The President was forbidden to run for a second term.
The President was not elected directly. CS citizens voted in their home state, with the state assigning its votes in the Electoral College to the winner of the state's election.
Davis did not serve his full six years; the American Civil War ended in 1865 with the defeat of the South, and the dissolution of all Confederate institutions.
