Carlo Corvo was a sergeant in the United States Army. He was part of the occupation of Germany after World War II. Bernie Cobb was one part of his squad.

Corvo was one of several soldiers given the task of combatting the German Freedom Front. He and his squad had the unenviable task of wandering the woods outside Erlangen at the end of 1945. They were in a firefight with GFF hardliners, which left several of the GFF dead.

Corvo and his unit, Cobb included, were among the troops assigned to protect Konrad Adenauer when the German leader visited Erlangen. Instead, Corvo and his men could do nothing but watch helplessly as a GFF mortar attack killed Adenauer.

Although a draftee, Corvo decided to stay in the Army, a fact that surprised Cobb when the two met again in Bad Tölz, Germany in 1947. Corvo vaguely hinted that he'd had a criminal past back home New Jersey, and so felt that the Army had more opportunities.
