The revelation that tin could be combined with copper to produce bronze was a recent one in Gibil. The fact that Engibil did not rule his city directly had a great deal to do with this discovery.
Both Centaurs and Sphinxes forged weapons made of bronze when the two contingent metals were available to them. These had the advantage of being much harder than weapons forged from unalloyed copper. A disruption to the centaurs' tin supply, caused by loss of contact with their trading partners the Nuggies, led to the centaurs returning to pure copper weapons, which in turn led to a major defeat at the hands of the bronze-armed sphinx army.
Bronze was the height of weaponry among the blonds of Detina before the arrival of the dark-hairs. The dark-hairs had weapons of iron which defeated the blonds in the wars of conquest, leading to the founding of the Detinan Kingdom.
