Brest is a city in the Finistère département in Brittany in northwestern France. Located in a sheltered position not far from the western tip of the Breton peninsula, and the western extremity of metropolitan France, Brest is an important harbour and the second French military port after Toulon.
Brest in Southern Victory[]
While serving aboard the destroyer USS O'Brien, Sam Carsten visited the French port city of Brest during the mid 1920s. There, he found he was actually quite welcome among the city's inhabitants as he quickly made friends with French Navy officer Henri Dimier. The two visited some of the local sights like the Maritime Museum and the cathedral of St. Louis.
While here, he also had his first encounter with the radical far right reactionaries from Action Francaise, and witnessed their liking for violence.[1]
Brest in The War That Came Early[]
When Sgt. Alistair Walsh's company was pulled from Messy, they were sent to Brest by rail. This was to board a troopship and sail back to England as the nearer Channel Ports were still held by the Germans.[2]
