Cletus Elwood "Boots" Poffenberger (July 1, 1915 – September 1, 1999) was a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers (1937–1939) and Brooklyn Dodgers (1939). His major league career ended due to his erratic behavior, and he played in minor league teams Nashville Vols (1940) and San Diego Padres (1942), before joining the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He returned to the Padres briefly in 1946.
Boots Poffenberger in Days of Infamy[]
In 1942, Boots Poffenberger pitched for the San Diego Padres at Lane Field against the Sacramento Solons. Although he put his all into the game, he was no match for Tony Freitas, who scored a 3-to-1 win for the Solons.[1]
