"Bluethroats" is a short story by Harry Turtledove. It was the sole original story published in the collection Reincarnations (Capclave 2009). It focuses on a father and his adult daughter's birdwatching expedition near Nome, Alaska, while each is simultaneously dealing with personal marital tragedies.
Turtledove says in his accompanying note that he has gone birding around Nome with his daughter, and that his wife saw a golden-crowned sparrow in the back yard, but the story's characters do not otherwise resemble his family.
