"Blue Fox and Werewolf" is a short fantasy story by Harry Turtledove, first published in Amazing Stories in September, 1983 under his pseudonym Eric G. Iverson. It has not been reprinted. "Blue Fox and Werewolf" is the first story to feature Clever Rolf.

An evil wizard named Mebodes has imprisoned a fair maiden named Viviane in a castle in the Great Wood, and surrounded the castle with werewolves.

The central character, Clever Rolf, is one of the few educated men in Argentan, a city-state near the Great Wood. After inadvertently insulting the knight Sir Ogier's quest to rescue Viviane, Clever Rolf is compelled to make an attempt to save Viviane.

Turtledove has stated that Rolf's winning strategy was based on a move he improvised while playing Dungeons & Dragons with Laura Frankos.[1]

The House of Daniel references Rolf's strategy in conjunction with a character named Iverson.
