The Bird of Paradise was a restaurant in Yreka, Jefferson, USA, owned by Indonesian national Asianto Supandy, the honorary consul to the state.
In February 1981, Supandy hosted Governor Bill Williamson and diplomat Mark Gordon, a returned Iran hostage, for the celebration of Gordon's homecoming. The dinner also publicly affirmed that Indonesia and the U.S. were allies, and that not all Muslim countries were hostile to the West in the way Iran was. [1]
