Behemoths were huge mammalian, furry creatures that were found in the Derlavaian continent and were extensively used for war during the Derlavaian War. A platform is placed on top of the creature, with a heavy gun and thick metal armor around the animal.

Algarve was the first to realize the potential of a massed behemoth attack, with infantry and dragon support. But such tactics were not operable in hot regions such as Zuwayza, as the army of Unkerlant found to its grief.

Literary Comment[]

Behemoths take the place of tanks in the Darkness series' World War II metaphor. Behemoth, along with Leviathan, is a proverbial unusually large creature from the Book of Job and other Biblical references, where it is apparently based on the elephant or the hippopotamus. The behemoth of Darkness is drawn as a woolly rhinoceros on the book covers.
