Barbara Pierce Bush (June 8, 1925 - April 17, 2018) was the wife of the 41st US President George H. W. Bush and, as such, served as the First Lady of the United States from 1989 to 1993. She is also the mother of George W. Bush, who served as the 43rd President from 2001 to 2009. During her husband's vice presidency, she served as the Second Lady of the United States from 1981 to 1989.

After W married O in a civil ceremony at the Massachusetts State House in Boston, W realized that he needed to take O to meet his father and mother, who were quite straight and conservative. W jokingly suggested that O should wear a burka to the meeting.[1]
