Banff is the largest town in Banff National Park, in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada. It is also the first incorporated municipality located within a national park in Canada. At 1,463 m (4,800 ft), it is the town with the highest elevation in Canada.

During the Great War, Banff was the site of an important railway junction in the Canadian Rockies. The town was captured by U.S. troops under the command of Major Irving Morrell in 1916 as part of a campaign to cut off Canada from the Pacific coast.
