Balamung was a Trokmoi mage. On one occasion, he was traveling through the Elabonian northlands, and came to Fox Keep. As all the rooms at Castle Fox were full of southron visitors, the only place which Baron Gerin the Fox had for Balamung to sleep, was the stable. Balamung never forgot this insult.[1]
Balamung managed to find the mummy of the ancient Kizzuwatnan sorcerer-king Shabeth-Shiri, and pry the ancient mage's secret book from his cold dead hands. Using power learned from the book, Balamung managed to secure rulership over most Trokmoi clans. Even chiefs who had been feuding for years, fell into sway alongside each other under Balamung's leadership.
One of the most powerful Elabonian barons in the north was Gerin, so Balamung could avenge his petty insult while striking a strategic blow.
The fylfot was Balamung's insignia, placed on the clothing and equipment of soldiers under him.
