Avram was a King of Detina. He ascended to the throne upon the death of his father, King Buchan. Avram had grown up in southern Detina and was committed to ending the institution of serfdom, which was common in the north of the kingdom. Due to this position, eleven northern provinces refused to accept Avram as their king and began a war of rebellion, proclaiming Grand Duke Geoffrey as their king. Instead of backing down as expected, Avram and the south fought back.

As the war dragged on, Avram's political leadership showed itself more and more. He sacked generals who failed him on the battlefield while giving those who succeeded an increasingly free rein, until he promoted General Bart to the rank of Marshal--becoming the first king to name a marshal in over eighty years--and giving him all discretion in the planning of military operations. Meanwhile, Avram continued to be committed to emancipation of serfdom throughout the kingdom, even as he made conciliatory moves toward Northerners whom he encouraged to lay down their arms.

Avram drew the notice of the gods of Detina, who had long been somewhat withdrawn from their worshipers' purely human affairs. The Lion God and the Thunderer loved Avram and performed miracles for those who invoked his name.

Literary Comment

King Avram is based on US President Abraham Lincoln. He also looks muck like him as well, as seen from the photo to the left and the ones on front covers.
