Avram dwelt in Cologne's Jewish quarter. In 1176, he offered the werewolf Dieter sanctuary when the latter was pursued by townsfolk.
He showed Dieter that he and the Jews had something in common: that both them were hated and feared by the townsfolk for something they couldn't help being. By the time Dieter's pursuers left, he had developed an odd comradeship with Avram.
