The burrowing skink was a native animal of Atlantis. Short and stout, it had no eyes, but broad strong feet and a long clever tongue. It dug through dirt for worms and bugs, and was regarded by gardeners as a pest because of the furrows it left. The skink filled the ecological niche which was served by the mole in Europe.[1]
