Arlington was an estate in southern Parthenia Province, owned by Duke Edward. After Edward joined "King" Geoffrey's rebellion against King Avram of Detina, Avram's forces confiscated Arlington, which was north of the front maintained by Edward himself.

Literary Comment[]

Arlington is named for Robert E. Lee's plantation Arlington House, now Arlington National Cemetery. This is one in a handful of occasions in The War Between the Provinces where Harry Turtledove uses the real-world name for the fantasy counterpart, rather than substituting an anagram, translation, cipher, pun, or some other play on words.
