Arizona is a state located in the southwestern region of the United States. Arizona was the 48th and the last of the contiguous states, admitted to the Union on February 14, 1912, the 50th anniversary of Arizona's recognition as a territory of the United States. Arizona is noted for its desert climate, exceptionally hot summers, and mild winters, but the high country in the north features pine forests and mountain ranges with cooler weather than the lower deserts.
When Pacifica broke away from the United States in 2031, Arizona became a border state in more ways than one. As it was not as reliably reactionary as it had been in the past, it seemed at least possible that the state might adopt the "neutrality" policy Nevada had implemented, rather than siding with PresidentMike Pence.
During the War of Secession, the CS Army attempted to take control of Arizona, but the campaign ended in failure. When the Confederacy achieved independence several months later, US Forces in the Arizona Territory were too strong, and the Confederacy was unable to get the territory partitioned like Virginia and West Virginia. So it remained part of the Territory of New Mexico, which later became a State.
In 1941, Confederate President Jake Featherston harkened back to the aborted Arizona as a "Confederate" territory in his call for war against the US.
The OTL Arizona is still part of the US state of New Mexico throughout Southern Victory.
