Appomattox is a town in Appomattox County, Virginia, United States. It is remembered as the town where Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia to Union General Ulysses S. Grant (U.S. Army General-in-Chief, de-facto commander of the Army of the Potomac) on April 9, 1865, the largest surrender of troops seen in the entire American Civil War, also marking the end of major military campaigning during the war.

Appomattox in Southern Victory[]

Appomattox saw the surrender of several Confederate soldiers to U.S. forces as they unsuccessfully retreated from Buckingham, Virginia in the closing days of the Second Great War. Jorge Rodriguez was among those surrendering.
