Anton Adriaan Mussert (11 May 1894, Werkendam, North Brabant – 7 May 1946) was a civil engineer and one of the founders of the National Socialist Movement (equivalent to the Nazi Party) in the Netherlands (NSB). He was the most prominent national socialist in the Netherlands before and during World War II. During the German occupation of the country, Mussert made himself useful to the occupiers, eventually receiving the title of "Leader of the Dutch People" from Adolf Hitler in 1942. This was a ceremonial title; Arthur Seyss-Inquart actually administered the country as Reichskommissar from 1940 to 1945.

After the war, Mussert was quickly arrested and convicted for high treason. He was executed by firing squad in 1946.

Anton Mussert in "The Eighth-Grade History Class Visits the Hebrew Home for the Aging"[]

During a talk with an eighth-grade history class from Junipero Middle School in 2013, Holocaust-survivor Anne Berkowitz confirmed for one student that Dutch Nazis, such as Anton Mussert, did exist. She also confirmed that several Dutch citizens followed Mussert.

Anton Mussert in The War That Came Early[]

Anton Mussert became Nazi Germany's puppet after Germany occupied the Netherlands in 1939. After the Nazis were overthrown in Spring 1944, Mussert was toppled and immediately forced into hiding, knowing full well he'd be executed if caught.[1]
