Anne Hathaway in Ruled Britannia[]

Anne Hathaway was a loveless burden on William Shakespeare;[1] he much preferred Kate, the proprietress of an eatery he frequented in London. Shakespeare had an affair with Kate during the period of Spanish occupation, 1588-1598,[2] and after Queen Elizabeth was restored to the throne in 1598, Shakespeare, who as part of his reward for helping the rebellion come to pass, was granted a divorce from Anne, although he ensured that she would receive £150 in alimony.[3]
