The Amritsar Massacre occurred in Amritsar, India, where, on 13 April 1919, British Indian Army soldiers under the command of Brigadier Reginald Dyer opened fire on an unarmed gathering of men, women and children. The firing lasted about 10 minutes and 1650 rounds were fired, or 33 rounds per soldier.

Britain reacted with horror and disgust to the Amritsar Massacre of 1919. For this reason, Mohandas Gandhi assumed that the Qutb Road Massacre of 1947 would be met with horror in Germany. Instead, it was met with praise from the Nazi government.
