Amasya

Amasya (Greek: Ἀμάσεια, Amaseia) is a city in northern Turkey and is the capital of Amasya Province, in the Black Sea Region. Located in a narrow cleft of the Yeşilırmak (Iris) river, it has a history of 7,500 years which has left many traces still evident today. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Pontus from 333 BC to 26 BC.

Amaseia was the the hometown of Harmothoe, an Amazon warrior, and her family, sometime in the 1st millennium BC. After Harpothoe was magically reborn in the 21st century AD, she asked what had become of her hometown, and learned a brief summary of its Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman history.
