Alvinos Bagdasares was a Videssian mage from Vaspurakan. His name was originally simply Bagdasares, but he added Alvinos for the benefit of Videssians who had trouble pronouncing his Vaspurakaner name.
During the reign of the Avtokrator Genesios, Bagdasares was living on Kalavria. He met General Maniakes, who determined to rebel against the tyrant, and became Maniakes' chief magical advisor during the rebellion. After Maniakes became Avtokrator himself, Bagdasares continued in this role throughout the Makuraner wars which followed.
Literary comment[]
Alvinos Bagdasares appears to be named for musical comedian Ross Bagdasarian and his fictional persona Alvin the Chipmunk. The name Bagdasarian is Armenian, the culture on which Vaspurakan is based.
