Aden

Aden, Arabic: عدن ʿAdin/ʿAdan, is a city, and since 2015, the temporary capital of Yemen, near the eastern approach to the Red Sea (the Gulf of Aden), some 170 km (110 mi) east of the strait Bab-el-Mandeb. Its population is approximately 800,000 people. Aden's natural harbor lies in the crater of a dormant volcano, which now forms a peninsula joined to the mainland by a low isthmus. This harbor, Front Bay, was first used by the ancient Kingdom of Awsan between the 7th to 5th centuries BC. From 1839 to 1967, Aden was directly administered by the United Kingdom.

While making their way back to Germany, Hellmuth von Mücke and his team of luftmariners avoided British-controlled Aden, favoring Ottoman-controlled Hodeida instead.[1]
