Abd al-Qadir was an elderly resident of Antioch, where his grandson ran an inn, in AD 717. In his youth he lived in Medina and met the Prophet Muhammad himself, and later become a soldier in the Caliphate's war of expansion. He told this story to Jalal ad-Din, a soldier quartered at the inn during the march to Constantinople. Over 50 years later, Jalal told one of Abd al-Qadir's memories to Da'ud ibn Zubayr to give him an Hadith or teaching of the Prophet.[1]
