"A Late Symmer Night's Battle", is a short fantasy story by Laura Frankos, first published in Turn the Other Chick, edited by Esther M. Friesner, Baen, 2004. It can also be read on Baen's website. It is a sequel to William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. Mustardseed is the POV. Several minor fairy characters from the play are portrayed as soldiers, who must defend the realm of Oberon and Titania from an invasion by German kobolds. The conflict takes a new direction when fairy-eating bats start attacking both sides.
